What Is Prayer and How Is Prayer Used

How strange it is that one of the most important things to understand in the believer’s life is miss understood by many believers and that is prayer. Some believers attend prayer meetings that are small in numbers because believers miss understand how important prayer is in the life of a believer. First of all, what we lost in the Garden of Eden, was our relationship with God. The most important thing in any relationship is communications between both parties, you and God. We communicate with our God, through prayer and studying and meditating on God’s written word called the bible.

Prayer can accomplish more than we even expect. It is a beautiful, mysterious, and all inspiring gift for those who are gifted in the area of prayer. There is no greater privilege for anyone than being able to personally talk with and speak into the ear of the Almighty God. There is nothing on earth that is more worthwhile than speaking to God in prayer. There is not an issue were facing that prayer cannot address because nothing is too difficult or impossible for God to handle.
So, with that known, why do many believers don’t attend prayer meetings and do not pray as they should? There are many different reasons besides misunderstanding about prayer and its use. One thing prayer takes time and there are many believers who do not or will not take the time to pray. Some believers never even pray over their food or pray before they go to bed at night. Some believers don’t pray when they get home from work or going to the store or just being out on the road, they take for granted that they had just been out on the road and God sees them safely back to their home and it never occurs to them how many people will not be returning home because they died in car accidents most of which are close to their homes according to statistics.

The primary principle for our Prayers

Our prayer is to be offered through Jesus Christ. The only reason that we have access to our heavenly father is through the blood of Jesus. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6). This is the reason why all of our prayers must end in Jesus name.

John 14:6 (KJV 1900)

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

We can’t come into the presence of a holy God unless we in Jesus name. That’s why we pray in Jesus’ name. Jesus is our access to God, and because of what Jesus did on the cross we can “draw near with confidence to the throne of grace”

Hebrews 4:16 (KJV 1900)

16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

Prayer is also assisted by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:26–27 says the Holy Spirit helps us in our prayers because we are weak and don’t always know how to pray as we ought. Sometimes we don’t know what to say, and other times we’re hurting too much to say anything.

The Bible teaches us that God is our heavenly father. God does not want us to perish in car accidents or anything that will cause our death or destruction in any kind of way. Our heavenly father sent his son Jesus Christ to conquer death on our part. Not just the physical death of dying and leaving this world but death as it is the opposite of all that God is. And God does not want us to experience death on any level because he loved us so much that he sent Jesus to conquer the very thing that was destroying our lives which was Sin and death. And death will be the last thing that is conquered by Jesus according to the word of God. Although what I just said is true.

Hebrews 9:27 (KJV 1900)

27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:

Romans 8:26–27

26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

Develop A Personal Prayer Life Of Your Own

When you pray you do not need an audience? Prayer is supposed to be a personal time spent with God. A time when you praise & worship God then tell him your needs and then you close your prayer with praise and him and thanking him for hearing your prayers.
Most believers believe that the things that come from God our automatic (when it comes to prayer). But the truth being what it is, all believers must cooperate with the laws, that is spiritual laws of the kingdom of God. What I’m talking about is faith and belief in what the words of God says concerning what you need. God knows what you need but you must ask before you can receive and you must believe that you received when you ask. You say if God knows already then why should I ask? Because we have a relationship with God and like when anyone that we have a relationship with if we want something we ask and so is the same with God. And as I have said before, you must cooperate with God’s spiritual laws governing faith in order to receive. One of the things that you can do that will lessen your prayers asking God for the things that you need is to follow what the word of God says concerning your needs.

Matthew 6:33-34 (KJV)
33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. 34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.

Did you notice that God said that that all the things that you need will be added to you. And that you are not to worry about the things you will need tomorrow. When you put your belief in that Scripture, you will pray less prayers asking God about the things you need and most of your prayers will be about praising worshiping and thanking God for what he is providing and what he is doing in your life.
